Last weekend at the West Byfleet Live event to our surprise there was a stall announcing proposals by Marstons the Brewery and Pub operator to build a Pub / Restaurant and Community / Sports Building along with parking on the West Byfleet Recreation Ground. The scheme proposed is for a two storey pub restaurant and to replace the existing sport pavilion with a new community and sports facility and creating a new access with provision for public parking, school drop off and dedicated parking for the pub restaurant. Marstons had a questionnaire inviting you to submit your comments.

This development goes against one of our main policies in the neighbourhood plan, “OS1 Local Green Space” which designates the recreation ground as “Local Green Space”. This was something which was only approved as part of our Plan last week by Woking Borough Council and was put in place to protect it against the ever encroaching commercial world.
Our chairman has written to Marstons to urge them to drop the proposals, please click here to view a copy of the letter
We have also written to our local MP Jonathan Lord to ask for his support, please click here to view this letter in full.
