Improvements to the village delayed due to the dire financial situation at Woking Council

You may well be aware that Woking Council is facing financial difficulty. This has an impact on the Forum and the projects you asked to be carried out to improve the village.

The Council holds money for these projects. It is a substantial sum, over £1m for improvements the Forum wants the Council to make in West Byfleet. At the moment the Council is not allowed to spend that money until the Government has approved the Council budget. That should happen early next year.

This is causing a delay to these projects. We have been assured by the Council that this situation is temporary and will be resolved.

We are still working hard to progress these projects with regular meetings between Forum Committee members, Council officials and Councillors.

At the moment we are concentrating our projects on improvements to the Recreation Ground:-

  1. Tennis Courts – a full upgrade supported by the LTA – see our website for the plan
  2. Outdoor Exercise equipment installation
  3. Refurbishment and enhancement of the pavilion facilities – A new building is not feasible with the current available funds
  4. Perimeter path

We will continue to keep you informed and we will provide you with an update in the Autumn. If you wish to see a more detailed explanation of the situation a longer note has been published here

We are also delighted to announce that Local Councillors Amanda Boote, Steve Dorsett, Peter Graves and Daryl Jordan have agreed to join our Committee alongside Josh Brown to assist the Forum with our work

Best wishes,

The Committee, West Byfleet Neighbourhood forum
